About Transition

Transition Stone is a group of ordinary people trying to find positive local solutions to the twin challenges of ‘peak oil’ and climate change. This page contains a bit of background to explain what we’re about.

Our Challenge
How can we become less reliant on oil and other fossil fuels, whilst improving the quality of our lives and relationships with others? Oil and fossil fuels are in almost everything we use in our daily lives; ranging from food production, transport and manufacturing of products.

How can we work together to reduce our carbon emissions through changing our lifestyles to avoid dangerous climate change?

Our Opportunity
Transition projects are a positive, creative response to these challenges. It is about getting together as ordinary people to find local solutions, which will work for our circumstances. It’s about making our community a better place to live by reducing our reliance on oil, cutting our carbon emissions.

Transition Stone
Transition Stone became an Official Transition Initiative in December 2010. Since starting we’ve been busy with film screenings, events and workshops, aiming to raise awareness of the issues and build up a strong local network.
